Plumheaded Finch (Neochmia modesta)
Description Plumheaded Finches measure about 11 cm or 4.3 inches in length (including its tail). Males and females look alike; except the female lacks the male's black chin spot. Description The Plum-headed Finches breed mostly from September-January in the south and August-March in the north.

The Plum Headed finch (Neochmia modesta) is found across eastern Australia from Northern Queensland through to New South Wales. It is most often seen in tall grass or shrubbery near floodplains, rivers or swamps. Grass seeds is what they feed on mainly and this motivates where they live. They also use the same tall grasses for their nest building.

Small brown bird with finely barred front. Brown above, paler and finely barred, below, with with pale spots on the wing and rump, pale-tipped tail, and tiny plum-colored cap (male also has plum-colored chin). Found in drier grassland areas, including agricultural areas, where it feeds in the grass or on the ground. Sometimes in large flocks, mixed with other species.
