It's now completely free to ride the ferry between Bodø and Moskenes in Lofoten on foot, and you can just board the ferry and get.

The options are: 1. Take 10:30pm from Bodo arriving Lofoten at around 2:30am. It gives us 4 hrs to see Saltstraumen. It saves us changing hotels and gives us more time at Lofoten. 2. Take 7:00am ferry from Bodo next day, arriving Lofoten at around 11:00am. It gives us almost full day at Lofoten.

The ferry from Bodo to southern Lofoten in Moskenes is super convenient. It only lasts 3h15 (sometimes a bit more). You don't have to go up from Bodo to the entrance to Lofoten, much further north, and then drive another 3 hours to go back down to Svolvaer. So that saves a hell of a lot of time!
